Some privileged nations like Cuba will have the honor of sporting chic head-to-toe looks from the likes of Christian Louboutin and French E-concept store, Sporty Henri. Both collaborated to create the country's official uniforms during the event.

Then there's the United States of America, whose team will be parading down Rio de Janeiro's Olympic Stadium in ... Polo Ralph Lauren boat shoes.

That's right, the entire team will be forcibly making a style faux pas with an unabashed display of Americana...which unfortunately comes with awful footwear options.

We've already spoken about the pitfalls of the boat shoe so won't go too in-depth there, but it's disappointing to see how the U.S.A. will already be losing on the fashion front.

The entire look from Polo Ralph Lauren isn't bad at all. There's the classic navy blazer; the striped shirt in red, white and blue; and white denim, which is a completely sensible look for many a Nantucket beachgoer.

But for the Olympics? It's not the occasion.

It's the one moment to make a statement to the world on how proud you are to be an American. It's the first time stepping in front of an international audience and flaunting how nationalistic you are. Fashion, as it turns out, says so much about an entire country. So why go out with anything less than America's best -- like clunky boat shoes?

Sneakers -- a very American staple -- could have sufficed.
